OK. Now that I've got that out of my system....let's talk chocolate. Dark chocolate to be specific!
Dark chocolate has amazing properties that are great for your skin! Check out our last blog on the Chocolate Truffle where we go into more detail about the benefits of this amazing sweet! Chocolate Truffle Blog.
Not only is it amazing for your skin, but dark chocolate is also pretty healthy! Sweet! Dark chocolate is a powerful source of antioxidants, it actually has twice as much as green & white tea combined! Woah! Some studies have even shown that dark chocolate can help improve blood flow, lower blood pressuer and lower the risk of cardiovascular disease! Of course you shouldn't only rely on chocolate but now you've got one more reason to indulge!
So with all the different types of dark chocolate out there, how do you choose? The best dark chocolates will have at least 70% cacao in it. Any less and there's too much milk and sugar in it which isn't good for you. Dark chocolate is usually very bitter and can take some getting used to. I've noticed that dark chocolate bars made with other ingredients are usually the best. My favorite add ins are raspberries, sea salt, mint & almonds! Lucky for you guys, and us, we gathered our favorite chocolate bars from Whole Foods for you!
Salazon Chocolate Co. $3.46
Hey, you said dark chocolate with less than 70% cacoa isn't good for you! Ok, you got me! But this bar is soooo good! Also talk about gorgeous! Everytime I unwrap this bar I'm so in love! The bar has a map printed onto it along with granules of sea salt. Because this bar doesn't have that high of a dark chocolate content its a pretty good first step for people who don't like too bitter a taste. The sea salt is a really nice addition to the chocolate too! The saltiness activates your tastebuds balancing the sweet with a little salty.
Chocolove XOXO Raspberries in Dark Chocolate $2.78
Raspberries are soooooo good! And healthy for you! Raspberries are also high in antioxidants so mix them in with dark chocolate and you've got yourself one heck of a cleansing power house ! This bar is made with Belgian dark chocolate and it has a really delicious tart finish from the raspberries. If you like chocolate covered berries than this is the bar for you!
Godiva Dark Chocolate Mint $2.50
Oh Godiva, you delicious chocolate company you. Have you guys been to the Godiva Cafe? There's one here in Chicago near the Water Tower Mall. It's amazing! The air smells like chocolate, there's free samples and the most epic of chocolate sundaes ever! There's a good reason I only go once a year. Too much to indulge in!
This chocolate bar however is another matter. Our photographer's favorite, the Dark Chocolate Mint bar is filled with a mint cream filling in easy to nibble bite sized pieces. The mint is cooling while the chocolate is intense and rich. Quite the combination of flavors!
Alter Eco Deep Dark Sea Salt $3.24
Another favorite for sea salt lovers. This one has 70% cacao so it's better for you than the Salazon chocolate bar we talked about earlier. This one is straight to the point and has a nice blend of salty to chocolatey. This one makes my mouth water. I'm salivating as I write this now. This chocolate bar is made with cacao from Ecuador and is 99.5% organic. So you can feel doubly good about eating this tasty bar. If you notice this bar is much thinner than the other ones but that doesn't mean its any less delicious. The dark chocolate is so rich! Definitely pick this one up next time you're at the store, you won't be dissapointed, I promise.
