One of my favorite day spas in Chicago is MoJo Spa (1468 N. Milwaukee Ave.; www.mojospa.com). It's owned by Amanda Kezios, a former personal chef who whips up good-enough-to-eat products including Body Dessert - an edible body butter made with cocoa butter, raspberry flavored oil, and amaretto liquor - and a Go Green Mask with lettuce, seaweed and lime used during the spa's 30-minute facial. Other facial "treats" include the High Society cream made with real truffle oil, which has a high concentration of bitamin B Complex.
For your feet and hands there are several types of manicures and pedicures including "Dr. Feel Good" that uses Kezio's Dr. Feel Good Body Relief cream made with essential oils and water energized from crystals and sound therapy vibrations. According to Kezios, when vibrations are absorbed into blood stream, they pulse throughhout the body helping to alleviate back pain, soreness from running and other joint and muscle aches. Even pro football players use Dr. Feel Good Body Relief.
All of the products used during the spa's facials and manis and pedis can be brought in the spa's front store and are handmade by Kezios. "The spa is like a bakery," Kezios says. "We make everything fresh. Nothing is mass produced."
One of my favorite products is MoJo's soy candle that only goes two degrees hotter than your body temperature so you can dip you finger into the warm wax while the candle is lit and smooth the wax over your hands and feet. It's a major moisturizer. I also like the spa's "Tune Up" oil to use after the shower and like the Dr. Feel Good Cream, it is made with sound therapy vibrations, which I was told will make me happy, and I have to agree - my mood is brighter when I use the oil. I also like MoJo's "Midas Touch" nail and hand cream and their all natural lip glosses.
At night MoJo spa turns into a mini night club with its in-house D.J. and bring-your-own food and drinks. The space is big enough to host bridal parties or cozy enough for a girls night out. Think a glass of wine, food, good music and spa treatments. Pure bliss, right? Oprah's private event planner even says MoJo Spa is the "#1 Bachelorette Party" in Chicago. How's that for an endorsement?
